International Bowl inspires unique breed of fans
You would have thought their older brothers played at Rutgers. Or perhaps they were somehow related to Scarlet Knights coach Greg Schiano. But no, the six teenagers from Buffalo, N.Y., (Williamsville East High School) were merely International Bowl fans. Yes, I said International Bowl fans. A year ago, when the inaugural game was played here at Rogers Centre, the group drove up from Buffalo and randomly went all-out in their undying support for the Cincinnati Bearcats, painting their chests, dying their hair and doing everything they could to cheer Cincinnati on to a 27-24 victory over Western Michigan. Their theatrics even made their way onto the promotional video that runs on the International Bowl Web site. After the two teams were announced this year, they decided they were going to cheer for Rutgers.
Can a sports car be both maligned and loved?
After the Second World War, a nimble little car joined America's ponderous landcraft on our expanding roadways. Narrow, with tall wheels and the distinctly separate fenders typical of cars decades older, the MG TC was a different form of transport. But it was fun. In a country enamored with cruising, the little MG appealed to those who appreciated the bugs, bumps and rushing wind that emphasized, rather than minimized, motion and speed. Servicemen returning from the war brought these English vehicles home and the sense of adventure the cars and their drivers projected caught on. Americans wanted more MGs and England, in need of export-generated cash, complied. The elegant if dated TC sold more than its manufacturer could have guessed, so MG followed with slightly refined TD and TF models.
A Sun City couple overcomes fertility problems to start a family of ...
When the Hills were still newlyweds, doctors informed them that their odds of getting pregnant were next to nil. But the prospect of an empty nest did not appeal much to the Sun City couple. Amy Hill had always wanted three little ones, and Richard Hill had had his heart set on at least four children. Undaunted, the couple pursued fertility treatment. .
American Policy Center Opposes SAVE Act
A very wise friend of mine just related a bit of a parable to me that I think puts the situation well into perspective. She asked me this question: Do you know why Zebras have stripes? My answer was - for camouflage. She said, do you see black and white in the landscape of Africa? The stripes don't blend in. The fact is, when a lion (the predator) seeks to capture a Zebra (the prey) he focuses on one animal from the herd, chasing it down until it drops from exhaustion. When a herd of Zebras runs to get away from the lion, the stripes make it absolutely impossible to focus on just one animal. Therefore the lions can't detach just one from the herd. The stripes are the Zebra's protection. It would be to the great advantage of the lion to have a system to focus on one Zebra - a chip, an ID card, some way to break it from the herd.
2007 BMW X5 3.0 si Review
When it debuted seven years ago, the X5 was a very BMW take on the then-new crossover SUV concept. SUVs in those days were generally ponderous utility-oriented trucks, the antithesis of all that BMW had built its reputation on. The X5 was different. Made in America (Spartanburg, South Carolina, to be exact) primarily for the American market, the X5 had nearly all of the handling and performance virtues of its sedan or wagon relatives, with extra ground clearance and an appropriate rugged look. It looked like an SUV, but BMW called it a "Sports Activity Vehicle", or SAV, and registered the term and abbreviation. To say it was successful would be massive understatement. But seven years in today's ultracompetitive automotive industry is an eternity. All of the X5's competitors have been renewed in that time, and that left it lacking in some areas.
Ronan wrestlers claim division title
When Cheff was penalized a point for stalling, the match was tied with 17 seconds to go.But Cheff scored his own takedown as time ran out."Their styles clash a little bit," Fisher said. (Fouty) is a tough wrestler. He just has a style that doesn't work well for us. It's a scrap every time they step on the mat with each other," he said.Cole McArthur widened the Ronan lead with a decision at 135.But Polson made up ground with wins at 145 and 160.Logan Torgison became a four-time divisional champ with a tech fall over Whitefish's Cody Morris and Brock Picard picked up a major decision over Libby's Steve Gary."He's been a pleasure to coach," Owen said of Torgison."We're going to miss him. He gives 100 percent every time he gets on the mat. Hopefully, he can be a two-timer (state champ). He's put in the work.
Motorola RAZR maxx V6 Ferrari Review
Motorola, better known as the inventor of the RAZR design, seems to be running out of ideas when it comes to building a new face for its handsets. Even if people are still buying RAZR-like phones, perhaps Motorola should start to give a chance to its other exceptionally good models like Z6 or Z8. I'm not saying this because I don't like the RAZR look, but even 'love' can turn to 'hate' if it's too much. Now, back to our Motorola RAZR maxx V6 Ferrari, there has been an increasing trend in the mobile industry that made handset manufacturers join forces with brands that have nothing to do with mobile phones. LG and Prada, Motorola and D&G, Samsung and Bang & Olufsen and many more partnerships have been made either for marketing reasons or simply to improve a handset's functionality (yeah right).
